Whilst the Headteacher has responsibility for the day-to-day running of the school, the main function of the Governing Board is to act as a critical friend in order to secure a good education for the children in a safe environment. If you are interested in becoming a Governor, please contact the school. Involvement in the Governing Board provides a challenging and interesting way of being involved in your children’s education. Free training is provided in all areas of Governor responsibility.
The Governing Board meets at least six times a year and has two main Sub-Committees:
Finance, Personnel and Premises
Curriculum and Standards
Below is a list of all our Governors and documents regarding their areas of responsibility and terms of office. You will also find a record of attendance at the above meetings reported under Attendance at Meetings along with any Governor vacancies.
The Governing Body
Mr. Steve Noble - Co-opted Governor (Chair)
I live in Tameside and have been Chair of the Governing Body at Buckton Vale Primary School since 2011. I spent all of my career teaching in primary schools (mostly in Tameside) and then working for the local authority school improvement service. I have also worked as an Ofsted inspector. Now that I am retired, I am keen to use my experience to help Buckton Vale become an outstanding school.
Mrs. Adele Knott - Co-opted Governor (Vice Chair)
Mrs. Alison Leigh - Co-opted Governor
Ms. Lisa Ringwood - Co-opted Governor
Mrs. Christine Lyness - Co-opted Governor
Mrs. Lorna Moore - Authority Governor
Mrs. Lisa Wilkinson - Parent Governor
I have been a Parent School Governor since September 2016. Within my role, I am the designated Child Protection Governor and have been allocated the Year 3 Class.
Currently my 2 youngest daughters attend Buckton Vale and my eldest daughter attended before moving on to high school.
For the past 3 years I have been a full time Childminder caring for children between the ages of 6 months to 11 years old, many of which attend Buckton Vale. This has enabled me to form positive relationships with both the parents and the children. Prior to this I was a Children and Families Social Worker for Manchester Local Authority, this has enabled me to build up a wide area knowledge and experience in relation to working with young people ranging from pre-birth up to 18 years of age, and from a variety of backgrounds.
Community ethos is important to me and I am involved in various community projects such as Muddie Buddies, Operation Farm and I am also Secretary to the Incredible Edible Project and I have also taken a role in the 2017 Band Contest held in Carrbrook.
In my spare time I enjoy gardening, reading, walking and love spending time with my family.
Mrs. Stacey Webb - Parent Governor
Dr. Gavin Wayte - Parent Governor
I joined the governing body in autumn 2016, the year my daughter entered the reception class at Buckton Vale. I have lived in Mossley for around a decade, having moved from south Manchester, being attracted by the open air, views and community atmosphere.
As a freelance composer and conductor, I work in media and live performance with different partners all round the country, and the world. I also work in education, teaching composition at Chetham’s School of Music, lecturing in music at the Royal Northern College of Music and leading arts projects.
I am the designated enrichment governor for Buckton Vale, focusing on arts, sports and development activities additional to the school’s central curriculum.
I am the assigned governor for Year 1.
Mr. Nicholas Whitbread - Parent Governor
I became a Parent Governor in November 2016 and I have two children at Buckton Vale.
I have lived in Carrbrook all my life and very dedicated to the community. I am a leader at the local Scout Group and lead the Beavers Colony every Monday night.
I currently work for Rochdale Council as a Practice Manager for the Cared for Children Team. I manage Social Workers who are the lead professional for Rochdale's children who are in public care. This job means I have a lot of experience with safeguarding vulnerable children, hence why I am allocated the role of Designated Safeguarding Governor for the School.
Outside of work and my voluntary work I enjoy spending time with my family, walking, running, football (all sports really!) and watching movies.
I am currently the assigned Governor for Year 5.
Mrs. Deborah Brown - Headteacher
Mrs. Sarah Blake - Staff Governor
I have been a teacher here since January 2008. I have taught years 1 to 5. I am very committed to the teaching and learning of all our children and love teaching.
I have been the PE co-ordinator and I am currently the maths co-ordinator.
My passion for the school led me to becoming a teacher governor to help lead the school to becoming an outstanding school.
I work hard with Mrs Brown, all the staff and governors to ensure that we offer an enriched and varied curriculum for every child at Buckton Vale..
