Reception Key Information

PE Days: Monday                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  Please come to school dressed in your PE kit on your PE days. This includes a white t-shirt, black or grey leggings/trousers/shorts and suitable trainers.  Reading Books:Read Write Inc books linked to phonics and reading for pleasure books are changed on a Monday. Children in Reception will be given a reading book once they can blend simple words.
Homework:We expect reading books to be read on a daily basis. Reading records should be signed.  Read, Write Inc home learning videos are set on a Friday. These videos are linked to phonic learning and recent assessments.  Home learning books are sent home on a Friday linked to learning in class.

What’s happening in Autumn term?

In Autumn 1, the children will have daily phonics lessons following the Read, Write Inc. Our Maths lesson follow white rose and our English follows Literacy tree. Our theme is ‘All About Me’ and our key question is ‘Are we all the same?’  We will be focusing on settling the children into Reception and familiarising them with our rules and routines.  There will be opportunities for children to talk about who they live with, where they live, their likes and dislikes, what they can do now that they couldn’t do as a baby and how everyone is unique.  Our key books will be Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak and Anansi the spider by Gerald McDernott

In Autumn 2, our theme is ‘Autumn And Celebrations’ and our key question is ‘What do we celebrate?’  We will be learning about, and comparing, festivals and celebrations such as Diwali, Christmas, birthdays, Baptisms, Weddings, Halloween and Bonfire Night. Our key books will be Look Up by Nathan Bryon and I am Henry Finch by Alexis Deacon

In Spring 1, the children will have daily phonics lessons following the Read, Write Inc. Our Maths lesson follow white rose and our English follows Literacy tree. Our theme is ‘Animal Kingdom’ and we will be looking at animals in the Artic alongside Wild Animals. We will learn about China and look at how and why they celebrate Chinese New Year. Our key books will be The Magic Paintbrush and Super Milly and the Super School Day

In Spring 2, our topic is ‘Ready Steady Grow’ and our key question is ‘how do I grow?’.  We will be looking at where our food comes from and how it is grown.  We will plant our own seeds and learn about the life cycle of a plant as well as learning about the life cycle of a chicken. Our key books will be The Tiny Seed and The Extraordinary Gardener

What’s happening in Summer term?

In Summer 1, the children will have daily phonics lessons following the Read, Write Inc. Our Maths lesson follow white rose and our English follows Literacy tree. Our theme is ‘Out and About’ where we will look at Pets, Homes and Transport. We will develop an appreciation of the world in which we live. These include where we live and our School, our local community and interesting local places. Our key texts are Weirdo, so much and The Night Pirates.

In Summer 2 our topic is ‘Living things’ and we will look at the responsibility for the care of our own environment and the impact it has on the whole world.  We will explore the oceans and learn about all the wonders of our blue planet. Our key texts are Tango Makes Three, Hairy McClary from Donaldson Dairy and Izzy Gizmo
